| Durham Music ServiceAbout Durham Music ServiceDurham Music Service, part of Durham County Council’s "Children and Young People's Service" is responsible for supporting music in schools, for peripatetic instrumental and vocal tuition and for the bands, choirs and orchestras across Durham County and Darlington available to children and young people.Our Vision:“Our vision is for Durham Music Service to inspire young people in our communities to enjoy music throughout their lives by providing a wide range of high quality musical educational opportunities aiming for the highest standards.”Our Aims:ü To support and underpin the Children & Young People’s Plan Key Improvement Priorities in order for all learners to achieve their personal best.ü To provide a progressive Music Service that meets the needs and requirements to enable every learner access, progression, expertise and diversity in order for individuals to achieve their best from Foundation to Key Stage 5.ü To be inclusive and supportive within ECM outcomes and EDS initiatives to ensure the development of quality learning situations where every child’s music education has the opportunity to flourish.ü To encourage more learners (students, teachers, classroom assistants,) to partake in musical activities throughout all key stages both within and outside the classroom.ü To strive to develop the aims of the Wider Opportunities Programmes.To provide and facilitate compelling, relevant and diverse training and CPD for all staff in order to ensure they are at the forefront of music education.Curricular Provision in Schools:Entitlement to a high quality, exciting, experiential, broadly based music curriculum for all children. Access to high quality examination courses in music for all interested students between 4 and 18.Peripatetic Instrumental and Vocal Tuition:Access for all young people to a wide range of high quality vocal and instrumental tuition drawing from a broad range of traditional and world music.This tuition extending and complementing the National Curriculum and providing the necessary specialist provision for GCSE, A level and other certificated music courses.Tuition that is value for money.Co-ordination between school based and visiting staff.Performing Opportunities:Performing opportunities to enable young people to participate within a wide range of musical genres and styles, developing their ensemble and other performing skills whilst striving for the highest quality.Regular opportunities to work with and learn from professional and specialist performers who work in national and international contexts.Workshops, concerts and recitals from visiting artists to enhance and extend curricular provision.
