New programmes and workshops for Early Years Foundation Stage & KS1

A ‘New’ Music Curriculum

‘Understanding the arts’

This package is a fabulous learning experience for pupils and teachers’ alike, offering opportunities to explore the true meaning of music through social, emotional, cognitive, physical, therapeutic and spiritual experiences that will transform learning to a deeper level of understanding for all concerned.

With the implementation of ‘Understanding the Arts’ in September 2011 such courses offer a route into delivering new compelling music experiences. The arts are a source of inspiration, enjoyment and fulfillment. They provide contexts in which children learn to express their thoughts and emotions, use their imaginations, experiment and develop creativity.

Participating in a range of music and dance – helps children become responsive, critical and appreciative. They discover the value of discipline and practice and, in responding to the work of others, they gain insights into different viewpoints, identities, traditions and cultures.

‘Little Fingers’ enhances the Foundation Stage/Early Years music delivery and features opportunities to sing, explore sounds and dance and play to music. Workshops are often used as a method for learning about many other things in the national curriculum, such as PE, science, numbers and words.

Within the new Primary Curriculum ‘Little Fingers’ underpins Key stage 1 methodology:

When studying music, children should:

1. Learn about and appraise a range of music of different genres and from different cultures including classical, folk and popular traditions

2. Learn to sing songs and use instruments to perform melodies and  accompaniments by ear and from notation

3. Create and compose music by choosing, ordering, combining and controlling sounds and   recognising how musical elements can be used

Work with a range of musicians and watch, listen to and participate in live performances.
