Wider Opportunities is an exciting and innovative instrumental and vocal programme that gives more children the opportunity to learn a musical instrument.

It is

Inclusive: Instrumental lessons are for the whole class during normal curriculum time.

Collaborative: Music service teachers work alongside class teachers. This unique partnership allows for professional development and joint planning that is tailor made for your school

Creative: Develops pupils’ confidence with opportunities for improvisation and invention.

Fun: Many different practical activities are used to suit all types of learners and success can be celebrated with performances for peers and parents.

Why take part?

The benefits of music making for young people are well documented.  Having the opportunity to learn a musical instrument and to play and perform with others is known to improve self esteem, self confidence, social skills and achievement in other subjects.

Now running for its 6th year, and involving over 7000 pupils in 150 schools, Durham Music Service is offering whole class music programmes to schools for the year 2011-2012
